Welcome to the Dorset Conservation S.A.C What are we?
I have been shore fishing for many years and have always enjoyed the light hearted competition that the sport generates. My only concern was at the end of the night at the weigh in. Hoards of fish brought to the scales, dead or half dead, fish that would normally be thrown back in the sea. Don't get me wrong, I am no vegetarian and have no problem with people catching fish for the table, I just have a big problem with killing unwanted fish just for a weigh in. Because of this I have decided to start my own shore fishing club, the basis of the club being a measuring system, which will allow the fish to be returned to the sea as soon as possible after the catch. (see rules for more details) | | The Goals I intend to start fixtures from Jan 2005, this will give time for new members to join and also to work out a sensible measuring system that is : A: Easy to follow B: Allows everyone on the beach to assist C: Fair system that represents the fish caught D: Not too bogged down with rules!
There will be 1 match per month (all shore venues) in and around Dorset. Most fixtures will take place on a Saturday night 7pm to 11pm.
There will be an optional pool for each match, probably around 2.00 per head. All money entered in pool will be used for prize fund at end of each fixture. The pool is totally optional for each angler, the aim to add a bit of fun on the night of each competition. FUN is the key to the pool, if the money is to high the competitions will become too serious, it is for that reason I intend to keep the pool contributions low.
I want to include a couple of cup or prize matches through the year, the prizes could be donated by the members, cups can possibly be brought from the membership fee, this can be decided on later in the year.
I intend to send each member an update every quarter by post, this will show results and league table etc... This will ensure that those who do not have internet access are kept informed.
If I can get a reasonable number off members then I will apply for affiliation to the N.F.S.A. However the club will fish the N.F.S.A minimum size limit regardless.
Finally and probably the most important goal, is to conserve our declining fish stocks by not killing small or unwanted fish in the aid of our sport. | | Interested? Any like minded shore anglers who are interested in joining, please contact me via my email address (contact). I will keep you updated to how much interest is being shown. If anyone has any further suggestions then please feel free to email me. Membership is likely to be 10 per head, per year. This will cover the cost of running the club, updates (post), cups and hopefully NFSA affiliation. Just how much we can do depends on how much interest is shown.
