Television is by far the most popular medium of mass communications, it is estimated that there are 1.1 billion television homes in the world and over 50% of the world’s population watches television. There has always been a close relationship between satellite and television broadcasting.
Currently there are 45 major satellite platforms providing direct broadcast services to over 55 million TV households in the world. On the average 10 million new subscribers are added every year.
Pakistan with its expanding economy and emphasis on IT related services would continue to be a major user of satellite communications and new television channels are being launched in the private sector. Electronic media is being flourished in Pakistan due to Government’s liberal media policy
