I hate not being able to disclose much, but keep those fingers crossed! We still haven't announced the name or launched an official website for the new game, but you can pick up some sneak peak details from my visit to France this past December. Keep an eye on theBehemoth.com for more details. BIG EVENT!!! April 30th will mark the first ever PICO DAY! For those of you who aren't down with NG history, Pico was a series I created back in the 90s, with Pico's School being the flagship game that made it a hit. Pico's School was programmed in Flash 3, which didn't support variables - try to figure that one out! I will forever stand by it as being the most technically advanced Flash game of its time. I still get daily emails asking for Pico 2 and I'm sorry everyone has waited so long. Chances are, I'll remake Pico 1 before Pico 2 is ever finished... But it will be a hot remake. Pico Day is being organized by fans, so you can get involved on this forum thread. The rules are simple: make a game or movie featuring Pico, submit it on April 30th and it will appear in a special collection page commemorating the event. Due to how close Pico is to my heart, and how special I want this day to be, we will have some BIG PRIZES. Winners will be selected by a private panel, to avoid anyone trying any mass-vote monkeybusiness. 1ST PLACE: $2,000 2ND PLACE: $1,000 3RD PLACE: $500 4TH & 5th: $250 The only downside is that you can't have external sponsorships for this contest. Pico is the Newgrounds mascot and we want all the entries to maintain an NG / Pico preloader and logo in the intro. Luis has made a slick Pico loader, which can be found in the thread. Wacky news: Rog from I-Mockery found a Cadbury mini egg with what looks like a nipple on it. This isn't a hoax, it really came out of the bag like this! He has decided to sell it on eBay: Cabury Mini Egg w/ Nipple A portion of the proceeds will be donated to St. Jude's Hospital for Children. Just to make things exciting, Newgrounds will match the donation up to $1,000! Place a bid and you could be the proud owner of this perverse candy! Newgrounds contributors are cleaning up on the competition circuit! Aleksander Wasilewski notified me that Polsupah is a finalist in the The Greatest Story Never Told third annual competition! People's Choice voting ends March 26 at 11:59pm. Other finalists include Objectionable Apparatus, Under the Mistletoe, Cold Tap, The Head - The Leg and more! Heck, I think most of the finalists have previously appeared on NG! Nuggets are having a contest! To enter, you must create a web comic featuring an original or existing Nuggets character. The winning comics will be displayed on their website, NuggetFuck.com! Also, please check out their website to read the complete rules - they were a bit too lengthy for this post. :) | | | | | EvilBlender sez: asssssssssssdasdfasdfa asdf asdf asdf asdf asdf asdf asdf asdf asdf asdf sadf as | | | Hey it's Josh from Psychogoldfish, and boy do I have a chink of news.\ Firstly, I'm really trying to feel out the community to see how much interest there is in having organized Q & A sessions with popular flash artists, live on NG chat. For more details click here Secondly I am extremely proud to announce the new RadioGrounds site has officially launched! RadioGrounds is a little project started by a bunch of Newgrounds users who wanted to stream live radio shows via the Internet. It's gathered a nice little following since and has evolved to the next level. Definitely come check it out, I am personally going on the air as soon as I finish typing this message. And Finally, I just wanted to throw out a huge thanks to everyone who voted Serious Santa as the #2 game last month on NG, it's great to get recognized and I really do appreciate it. Huge congrats to HAPPYandSMILE for nabbing #1 and to everyone else who made the list. I look forward to another great month for flash games. | | | | | | | February 16, 2006 | Header Updates | | | Posted by: TomFulp | | | | We've tweeked the header some more, so there is now a checkbox to "Save!" your login info. If you check this box, you will remain logged in to NG with each visit. Also, when you log in, it will now refresh the current page. This makes it easier to get to work, since most of the time users aren't trying to access their account info. If you do need to access your account info, simply click the "ACCOUNT OPTIONS" button that appears after you log in. We are hoping this way works best for most people! So the buttons might still be too big, the vertical height too tall, and the slogan too bland - but beyond that - any other bugs / glitches with the new header? BTW - we noticed a dramatic increase in sign-ups yesterday. If the trend continues, it means the new header has encouraged a lot more people to sign up for accounts. Hopefully that's a good thing! :) | | | | | | | February 15, 2006 | NG Slogan | | | Posted by: TomFulp | | | | A lot of people have been asking about the new slogan. I first addressed the NG slogan more than two years ago, in this thread. I still love "The Problems of the Future, Today!" and intend to let it live on as a part of NG, but I have the same issues I had two years ago - it just isn't relevant to what the site has become. NG is a massive creative community that represents all sorts of artists and the old slogan makes it sound like a bad thing. Yeah, the slogan is "edgy" and "cool", but what can I say - I'm not an angsty teen anymore. I once told a fan that I wouldn't be true to myself if I spent the rest of my life pretending to be an angsty teen in order to cater to the angsty teen market. I had been an angsty teen and thus NG attracted that sort of crowd, but like Bart said on the Simpsons, "making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel." I like to think NG has all the same "edge" as it always had. After all, we still allow the same content, much to the chagrin of parents and prudes. Being angry and "in your face" is not something I want to dwell on, though. The community is massive and there are a lot of artists looking for support and feedback. I hate seeing negative attitudes prevail on the site when there is so much amazing stuff going on here. Newgrounds was the first internet community of its kind and a lot of good has come from it. Artists are putting out DVDs, getting sponsorships and finding good jobs as a result of their involvement in the NG community. I actually get a good deal of letters thanking NG for being the catalyst for personal success. I like those emails a lot more than the mean, pushy ones that make all sorts of demands for MORE (though they are duly noted). With all the good coming from NG, I don't feel the need to put a negative spin on it. NG is no longer the problems of the future today, NG IS THE FUTURE, TODAY. I would change our slogan to "The Future is Now", but that was the Neo Geo slogan. Can you tell I get a lot of inspiration from SNK? :) As for the new slogan... I came up with it one day while I was in the shower. I was thinking about how NG has grown to include all sorts of content and is basically trying to be everything to everyone. Then I realized, NG is not everything to everyone, it's everything BY everyone... I think that's pretty NEAT. As for the other complaints about the new header... We'll try making the buttons a little smaller and cutting down the vertical space as much as we can without screwing it up. And I promise, the redesign Stamper is working on LOOKS AMAZING and fits much nicer with the new header, which he has already been tweaking. | | | | | | | February 14, 2006 | New Header | | | Posted by: TomFulp | | | | For months now, we have been tinkering with a new look for the site. The goal is to clean up the layout and optimize the load (switching to CSS), while not looking bland. Stamper came up with a new header, using Jeff's revision of the NG tank logo. We think it looks great and I'm too impatient to wait for the rest of the redesign, so we're launching it ahead of the future changes. The rest of the site will be changing to blend more with the style of the new header. I know many of you hate change, but please give this a chance. The new layout should ultimately be a much smoother experience for everyone. Things to note: If you log in/out from anywhere other than the grounds gold page, you may still get the "you are logged in as [username]" message in the top right screen (although you will have actually been logged out). The plan is, when you log in/out, you will be re-directed to the page you were previously viewing - at the moment it goes straight to your user account when you log in and straight to the login screen when you log out. I'll start making the changes live right now! | | | | | | | " border="0"> | | | |
